I wanted to write an opinion on someone who I listened to years ago that helped me in a lowly time in my life and helped me with complex subjects of the mind, the self and then with the controversy I feel like if I carry on with this project then I'm giving creedence to the controversy or being complicit which doesn't sit right with me. So now I've gone cold on the whole thing. And I guess that ultimately we just have to take a beat and collect our thoughts before getting back on with this one.
It does sometimes feel like the noise of negativity drowns out all other points or discussion when you can say "that guy did X". That's a big reason for wanting to make this psudomistic as if these scrappy unfinished thoughts were to ever gain any semblance of legs then negatively affected interests could just figure out who this is and find out poorly things I did in earlier life and then spam the news with that till it's psunonomous with the name so the typical conversation would then go like this: "Did you see what Moniker Lebowski said ab..." "Ew Moniker Lebowski isn't he the guy who platformed KRSONE"
KRSONE is an interesting person. He is well known for basically his musical ideas but there is a lot more to him than that. His desire to teach and educate and dediacte his life to a very simple set rules he was taught and is endearing to teach. There's also a lot of controversy and difficulty to get excited about the things he says as there's a few things up top that are difficult to digest.
This is all speculation and simplification of points as I remember them as we go through I'm hoping some of this will be better clarified or specifically talked about so we can clear it up a bit better.
It's also worth mentioning that I am not qualified in any way as an authority on the subject or am saying one way or the other that anything here is right necessarily. There was a point in time where I consumer
Multiple times on multiple occasions on talks he is giving he mentions that all of KRSONE's talkings and teachings belong in the public domain. He seemingly doesn't mind people taking or monetising his IP. This is an interesting thing as it feels like a progression away from certain paths that have been available to us at one or another points in time. In my memory there was a time when every "guru" that could fix you would hide their teachings behind a paywall with a 10ft long preamble before asking you for your credit card. Then there was a revolution to my memory when the early 2000's influencers (GaryVee comes to mind) and even said something along the lines of "this is what they teach you and it would fit on a stack of playing cards. I can tell you all this because there's 100 people in the room and less than 5 of you is actually going to do the work.
Having a name that's given to you vs a name that you have chosen is something of a power dynamic. There's a world where if I was trying to take power away from KRSONE for example I would call him by his real name. The name he chose to go by has power as long as people keep calling him that. A nickname has power as well or a name you go by. It's easy to dismiss someone by using their nickname and it's a very effective strategy to distance a messenger from their message.
KRSONE believes that hip hop for him fufils the same things for him as a religion does for others. He believes that he is a diciple of the founding members of what he refers to as the temple of hip hop. He has very strong beliefs about this which creates a lot of the controversy around him which in itself is an interesting debate (though where he loses a lot of his audience).
